About us

The Ahmadu Bello University was established in October 1962. The University presently has a population of about 25, 000 undergraduate and 6, 000 postgraduate students drawn from various parts of Africa and the rest of the world.

With twelve Faculties, a Postgraduate School, five Research Institutes and six specialized centres, the University offers a wide range of opportunities for postgraduate research in Administration, Agriculture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Environmental Design, Law, Medicine, Pharmaceutical Science, Physical Sciences, Biological Sciences, Social Science and Veterinary Medicine.

Our Postgraduate School

The Postgraduate School was established in 1980 to enable the University achieve a higher degree of emphasis and coordination in its postgraduate training and research. The school was also charged with the responsibility of assisting departments improve training programmes to provide qualified manpower for the University, other Universities, private sector, institutions of higher learning, public corporations and parastatals; federal and state governments.

The vice chancellor

B.Sc, MSc(ABU), PhD, DIC (London), FNMGS

Professor Ibrahim Garba is the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University. The University of London trained professor of mineral exploration and mining geology, was between 2009 and 2012 the Vice Chancellor of Kano State University of Science and Technology.

Born on February 25, 1957 at Riruwai town in Doguwa local government of Kano State, Professor Garba is a specialist in economic geology (gold and rare-metal deposits), mineral exploration/mining sector governance.

He got his PhD in Geology from University of London after his first and second degrees at Ahmadu Bello University in 1980 and 1985 respectively. This is in addition to the Diploma of the Imperial College in Mineral Deposit Studies from Royal School of Mines, Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine, London in 1993.

As a geologist of international repute, he also attended a continuing education course in Technical, Financial and Legal Appraisal of Mining Projects at T.H. Huxley School of Environment, Earth Sciences and Engineering, Imperial College, London 1998.

Equally, Professor Garba was also a beneficiary of ABCs of Mining Seminar Organised and presented by BEHRE DOLBEAR INTERNATIONAL LTD, London in
2008. He has also worked in several reputable organisations as well as won awards. He took over office as the Vice Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University on 21st March, 2015.

The Vice Chancellor is ODL compliant and ICT proficient having obtained a number of certificates in computer applications, especially in such areas as word processing software, graphics software and Geographic Information Systems and imaging software.

 

The Director, ABUDLC

Professor A.Z Hassan (DVM, MSc (ABU), PhD

Professor Adamu Zoaka Hasssan is the Director of the Ahmadu Bello University, Distance Learning Centre, Zaria, Nigeria. He got his PhD, first and second degree in Veterinary Medicine at Ahmadu Bello University in 1987, 1994 and 2002 respectively.

The Ahmadu Bello University trained Veterinary Surgeon was between 2010-2014, Deputy Dean and Dean (2014-2015) of the School of Postgraduate Studies, Ahmadu Bello University.

The Director of the Distance Learning Centre is ICT proficient and ODL compliant having obtained a number of certificates in Web 2.0 Applications, e-Learning and Courseware Development, OERs Training, Digital Education Training CCE in Finland as well as LMS Application and Management.

Born on September 24th 1963 at kawo, Kaduna State, Professor Hassan is a specialist in Veterinary Surgery and Radiology. He has also held several reputable positions in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Ahmadu Bello University as well as other Institutions. He is a Member and Fellow of several Associations as well as Chairman of various Committees and has won a number of awards. He assumed office as the Director of the Ahmadu Bello University, Distance Learning Centre on 1st
September, 2015.
